You may not be cut out for the art business
The best business advice I have ever received is when you find a hole, fill it!
Where’s my shovel?
Why You’ll Never Make It
I won’t lie to you; this one will sting, but there’s a strong possibility that you’ll never make it in the art world because you aren’t putting yourself in enough places.
The more research I do, the more I realize that the one common thread among creative individuals who make a big dent in the art world is that they never stop hustling. They’re improving their talent, talking with more galleries, networking with more influential individuals, and sharing their wins as often as possible.
I’ve got a piece I’m writing that digs deeper into this topic, and it’s one I plan on building upon over time because I’m tired of not hearing more stories about the path successful artists took to become successful.
In serendipitous fashion, this video dropped in my lap right when I needed it. It’s not the answer, but it’s the catalyst to something bigger for The Hungry Artist, and maybe it will spark the flame under your booty to get you networking with the glitterati.
Bookmark the Hell Out of This List!
Here’s a (not-so) secret thing about almost every single graphic assets marketplace—they all give away free stuff on a regular basis. Most likely, any digital tools marketplace you can think of has a freebie section that you're not taking advantage of, but I’m going to help you out with a list of the top shops and links to their freebie pages.
It’s also a good idea to subscribe to all of their email lists because they often drop special freebies and smoking price breaks for newsletter subscribers.
If you’re considering becoming a full-time member of one of these services, I recommend Envato Elements*. I’ve been a subscriber for several years, and I cannot recommend them enough to anyone who uses creative assets regularly.
Tasty (AOTD): Kerri Williamson
Kerri Williamson likes ebony scavenger birds. She also likes fish, vegetables, and mystical creatures. Her vibrant and dynamic style screams out to be featured in graphic novels and dark noir fairy tales. Instead of Nine Carrot Studios, it could be Nine Raven Studios instead.
Small Bites
If you’re into writing headlines and video titles like I am, then I have a SURPRISE for you!
Who knew that modern art wasn’t a movement as much as it was a covert operation to fight against communism?
Speaking of totalitarian regimes, how about some art that will get you canceled in Florida?
Affinity introduces version 2.1 to yet another collective yawn, but hey, at least you can make your dotted lines more symmetrical (literally the top thing in their update list).
Illustrator Daniel Sulzberg talks about how art means something, and AI will never understand the concept.
